In the constantly evolving world of medicine, particularly Cosmetic Dermatology, keeping up to date with the latest procedures and research is of paramount importance. Dr Diaz, Senior Consultant Dermatologist at Birmingham Dermatology Clinic, understands how crucial it is to develop and enhance existing knowledge and skills within the industry, which is why he met with fellow leading specialists at the 72nd Annual Dermatology meeting in Denver, Colorado.
Key features of the meeting included discussing new treatments for Psoriasis as well as reviewing advances in skin cancers and treatments. Also on the agenda was how to use new tools which can diagnose skin lesions using dermoscopy, which is a magnifying device which helps to analyse the skin directly from the patient. This technique is particularly useful in the diagnoses of hair loss.

As well as learning more about hair transplants and hair cloning, Dr Diaz also found discussions on using Plasma Rich Platelets (PRP) particularly interesting, as this is a procedure used in a standard hair transplant procedure performed at Birmingham Dermatology Clinic. The PRP procedure is in line with December 2013’s publication in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery, which is one of the official publications of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). It was also the topic of one of the lectures given by one of the world’s most renowned hair transplant surgeons at the 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the ISHRS which was held in San Francisco in 2013.

Dr Diaz was privileged to be chosen to attend the Advanced Use of Botulinum Toxin course, which was reserved especially for those doctors who have significant experience and knowledge in the subject. The lecture was delivered by Dr J Carruthers, who is one of the inventors of using Botulinum Toxin in facial aesthetics. Dr Diaz stated that he was extremely pleased to have learnt new ways of using Botulinum Toxin and is keen to put his new skills and knowledge to use.

The meeting also enabled Dr Diaz to meet with fellow specialists from all over the world so as to share opinions and knowledge, which will help to advance the service he is able to provide to his own patients in the UK.

Dr Diaz strives for Clinical excellence within his own clinic and he understands this can only be achieved by hard work, skill and knowledge.
